Who are we?
At Sharing Prosperity, we believe that every person has the potential to contribute positively to their community and do so in a way that is healing for themselves as well. By valuing ourselves, we naturally value our clients and communities as a whole, sharing an energy of abundance that fosters growth and well-being for all.
Co-Founder
Melissa (pronounced meh-LEESA) is a first-generation Honduran American who has always been passionate about addressing environmental injustices.
Visiting her family in a small Honduran community, she witnessed firsthand the detrimental effects of environmental degradation on marginalized communities. One vivid memory is of a local river that once provided for her community but became polluted and lifeless, the inability for people to fish, swim, or even have access to clean drinking water. This early experience instilled in her a profound sense of responsibility to fight for environmental justice. With a degree in Environmental Engineering, Melissa embarked on a successful career in corporate America. However, she soon realized that the corporate world often failed to address the root causes of environmental problems. This realization ignited a new passion within her: grassroots organizing and advocacy.

Jay Corrales (he/him)
Jay Corrales is a collaborative leader, coach, and consultant with over 20 years of interdisciplinary experience in business, technology, real estate, and sustainable development. As Co-Founder of Sharing Prosperity LLC Cooperative, Jay brings a unique and holistic approach to integrating diverse perspectives and backgrounds to support a wide range of client needs. He leverages his expertise to guide next economy strategy, foster collaborative operations, and facilitate personal and group transformation. His work emphasizes building equitable, resilient communities through innovative consulting and coaching services, empowering individuals and teams to create a just and sustainable world.

Vision
In her journey, Melissa connected with like-minded individuals and communities who shared her vision of a just and sustainable future. Through collaborative efforts, she and her collaborators worked tirelessly to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and implement solutions that address environmental injustices. Melissa's extensive experience in both public and private sectors, as well as her involvement with nonprofits, provided her with a unique perspective on the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental issues. Together, they form a collective dedicated to transitioning from extractive capitalistic systems to more equitable and sustainable models.

Commitment
Driven by a sense of urgency and a commitment to action, Melissa co-founded Sharing Prosperity with Jay Corrales. This initiative aims to transform the current workforce and societal structures into systems that prioritize community well-being and environmental sustainability. Sharing Prosperity is not just a vision; it is a movement that empowers individuals and communities to take control of their future. Through education, advocacy, and grassroots organizing, Melissa and her team are paving the way for a more just and prosperous world for all.
Training
In addition to her environmental work, Melissa is an coach and pursuing her International Couching Certification through The Academy for Coaching Excellence. She offers coaching services to help individuals work past their barriers and create impactful changes in their own lives and communities with more joy and balance. By integrating her coaching skills with her environmental advocacy, Melissa provides holistic support to those striving for personal and collective growth.

What's a Cooperative?
A cooperative, or co-op, is a group of people who unite to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise. Co-ops operate on the principles of self-help, self-responsibility, equity, democracy, and solidarity. Members of cooperatives believe in ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and caring for others.
Key Features of Cooperatives
Democratic Control: Each member has a say in decision-making, typically one member, one vote.
Member Economic Participation: Members contribute equitably to and democratically control the capital of the cooperative.
Self Determination and Independence: Co-ops are organizations controlled by their members.
Education, Training, and Information: Cooperatives provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers, and employees to create a lasting positive impact on community engagement in local government decision-making.
Cooperation Among Cooperatives: Co-ops serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together.
Concern for Community: Co-ops work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies approved by their members.
Types of Cooperatives:
Consumer Cooperatives: Owned by the customers who buy goods and services from the cooperative.
Worker Cooperatives: Owned and democratically controlled by the employees.
Producer Cooperatives: Owned by producers of commodities or crafts who have joined forces to process and market their products.
Housing Cooperatives: Owned by residents who collectively own the building or complex.
Multi-stakeholder Cooperatives: Include different types of members (e.g., workers, consumers, and community supporters).
